If you were on a deserted island and could only do one core or strength exercise to get 6 pack abs, the plank would be it. It not only does it work the abs, it works the back, shoulders and legs. And if you tend to make faces when your workout gets hard, it can work your facial muscles too!

There are lots of variations of planks, but this video starts with the basic modified and full forearm plank.

If you’re a beginner, start with 15 seconds doing 2 sets. As you get stronger, work to a full forearm plank and then start holding longer. Work up to 30 seconds, 45 seconds and then a minute.

Oh and don’t forget to breath. Sometimes people hold their breaths during strength exercises, but the better you breath, the easier it is. Focus on taking long full deep breaths, exhaling at the same pace of the inhale.
