One reason that so many people struggle to stay with a weight loss program is that it often requires so many changes at one time. Not only do you have pay attention to and change old habits, but you have to get organized enough to start new ones. And while it might be easy enough to change a habit that affects only you, when you’ve got kids and husband to contend with, it can be harder.

There is a great saying that goes, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Another I like for weight loss is, “Slow and steady wins the race.” These sayings remind us that every little step can make a difference and that by taking things slow we can still get to the goal. In fact, you’re more likely to stay with the goal if you take your time. So I wanted to offer posts that encourage one simple change each week. Instead of throwing your life upside down trying to incorporate completely new living habits, take them on one at a time. It will make the change easier for you and for your family.

One little change means it will take longer to reach your goal, but in reality you’re more likely to reach it. How many of you reached the goals you set at New Year’s? But if you’d made one little change over the last 36 weeks, odds are you’d be 20-30 pounds thinner. Little changes do make a difference.

This weeks change is:

Swap out your high calorie, high sugar soda and replace it with diet soda.

If you already are drinking diet soda, limit yourself to two a day, and swap the others out with water.
